Refugee Alternatives Conference

Child holding SOS banner

In February 2017, the Refugee Council of Australia and the Grand Challenge on Refugees and Migrants hosted the inaugural conference Refugee Alternatives: Improving Policy, Practice and Public Support. The conference was a unique event that utilised the vast knowledge and expertise of those with lived experiences. It brought together a broad range of expertise covering topics of displacement; protection; cooperation; wellbeing; resilience; education; advocacy; and unity from across the country and across the globe. By partnering with those that are best placed to find solutions to current issues, the conference engages the vast knowledge and expertise of those with lived experiences – over 40% of the 70 speakers and moderators were from refugees and asylum seekers backgrounds.
